Foundational Layers

The Essential Deskpad and the psychology of a defined workspace.

There is a specific kind of clarity that comes with a clean desk. As the light begins to shift this time of year, it usually brings a collective urge to clear the clutter and reset our environments. I spent this past week in the studio leaning into that feeling, finishing a small batch of our new Essential Deskpads. These were designed to be more than just a surface... they are intended to be the foundational layer that anchors an entire professional setup.

We sized these at 12" × 22" to ensure a generous footprint. It is large enough to comfortably house a laptop, a notebook, and your essential accessories without feeling like it is taking over the desk. The choice of material was critical for this piece. We selected a premium vegetable-tanned leather that offers a smooth, mouse-friendly surface. Unlike synthetic alternatives, this leather will record the history of your work, developing a unique patina and character through years of use.

One detail that was important to get right was the underside. We opted for a micro-fiber suede backing to ensure the pad stays in place while protecting the desk surface underneath. It is a small addition, but it is those quiet details that separate a temporary accessory from a permanent piece of office furniture.

Whether you are working from a dedicated home office or a corporate setup, the Essential Deskpad is meant to define the zone where your best thinking happens. It is a simple object, but it provides a sense of order that makes sitting down to work feel like an intentional act. As we continue the run-up to the Glen Ridge Arts & Eco Fair in May, these represent our focus on creating pieces that bring both beauty and utility to the everyday.
