Our leather modding series is born from that exact perspective. The goal is not to change or improve products that are already exceptional, but to add a layer of color, texture, and a human feel that only leather can provide.

This week, I am continuing to leather mod brands and products I love for their design and utility. Our focus is shifting directly to the workspace with a legendary name in storage: Trusco.

Manufactured in Japan, these pressed steel trunk toolboxes are legendary for their durability and utilitarian design. They have long been coveted by the creative community for their perfect balance of form and function. These toolboxes come in various sizes and are absolutely perfect for housing the specific tools of your trade, whether you are packing delicate calligraphy pens, precision skiving knives, or your essential daily workbench gear.

While the original steel boxes are structurally flawless, metal on metal can be loud and unforgiving. If you are dropping premium brass lighters or sharp steel blades into a bare metal container, the daily impact can rattle your tools and nick the interior paint. To balance the industrial steel, I crafted custom leather liners that sit perfectly inside the base. This mod introduces a warm, protective layer that cushions your most important instruments while shielding the box itself from daily wear.
